SUNSHINE Grow Mixes and more

Important for GOOD potting soil:

  • water retention: to keep nutrients in soil
  • aeration and texture: oxygen circulation helps to avoid rot
  • drainage
  • pH 5.5-7 (ideal - 6)
  • nutrient makeup - correct nitrogen to phosphorus ratio (controlled and corrected by Nutrition program)
  • the right balance of fungus to bacteria (provided by good aeration, drainage, and Mycorhizzae additives)

GOOD potting soil components:

  • Coconut coir
  • Perlite
  • Pumice, Sand, Glacial Rock Dust, Volcanic Rock Dust,
  • Aged Pine Bark
  • Canadian Peat (under 10% volume)
  • Surfactants and wetting agents
  • Mycorhizzae

BAD potting soil components:

  • Sphagnum peat moss (makes soil too acidic)
  • Compost
  • Grinded leftovers of plant or animal origin (they shift pH): Soybean Meal, Fish Meal, Oyster Shell Flour, Worm Castings, Bat guano, Fish meal, Crab meal, Bone meal, Blood meal,Yucca Extract, Crustacean Meal, Kelp Meal, Feather Meal
  • Dolomite
  • Leonardite / humic acids (slows down plant development if applied at over 16ppm; humic acids are already present in soil organic content)
  • Pre-mixed Fertilizers (no control over nutrients)

Sunshine Starters - delicate nourishing propagation mixes for seedlings and cuttings

Starter Propagation Mix #2, professional grade

Buy Now !

Ready-to-grow soils contain lots of organic nutrients that are too rich for a seedling. Seedlings and small plants grown from cuttings should be grown in a simpler potting soil.

Professional propagation mix with custom formula for rooting cuttings. It has perfect drainage characteristics, promotes faster root growth and gives quick anchorage to young roots. The mixture helps retain air and moisture, releasing them as the young starter plant requires them.

Ingredients: Perlite, Vermiculite.

See picture of a tray with cuttings in with propagation mix (left) and regular potting mix (right).

Sunshine Starter Seed Germination Mix #3, professional grade

An ideal mix with custom formula for seed germination.

This mix has perfect drainage characteristics and yet retains enough moisture, so very little watering is required. It promotes healthy root development, gives quick anchorage to young roots. The mixture helps retain air and moisture, releasing them as the young starter plant requires them.

Ingredients: Canadian Peat, Pine bark, Coconut fiber, Perlite, Vermiculite, specialized starter-grade slow release Fertilizer with complete micro-elements (provides small seedlings with a healthy start).

Sunshine Myco Mix - growing medium with Mycorrhiza

Myco Mix is the amazing underground secret to a better garden! This professional growing medium with Mycorrhiza is a must for establishing plants, recovering weak plants, and for transplanting applications, including seedlings and cuttings. Its active ingredient, Rhizophagus irregularis, is a soil inoculant, or endophyte (microbe) that promotes plant health.

- Stimulates roots for faster establishment
- Helps release nutrients from the soil and aid nutrient uptake by the plant
- Helps plants overcome stress caused by transplanting or drought
- Increases yields, fruiting and flowering, survivability
- Easy to use, just add around root ball at planting time

A mycorrhiza (from Greek mico - fungus, and rhiza - root) is a symbiotic association between a fungus and a plant. The term mycorrhiza refers to the role of the fungus in the plant's rhizosphere, its root system. Mycorrhizae play important roles in plant nutrition, soil biology, and soil chemistry. These specialized fungi colonize plant roots to create a symbiotic root-and-mycelial network within the surrounding soils, increasing efficiency in nutrient and water absorption to optimize plant performance. Mycorrhizal fungi increase the surface absorbing area of roots as much as 50 times, thereby greatly improving the ability of the plant to access soil resources. They help to solubilize hard-to-capture nutrients, such as organic nitrogen, phosphorus, iron and other tightly bound soil nutrients.

Without mycorrhiza, some plants, especially fruit trees, won't develop properly (example: Lychee seedlings never develop into established plants without it).

Try the Myco-mix on your difficult growing projects and watch the miracle happen!

Contains beneficial microbes: Funneliformis mosseae, Rhizophagus intraradices, Septoglomus desertícola

Compare Susnhine MycoMix with mycorrhizae and control mix in 6 weeks old tomato seedlings. Root system is 2-3 times larger (=better growth).
